The Wight Herd

Pasture meets culture

The Wight Herd is a celebration of our farming heritage and of the colour and artistry of the Island we call home.

Not too long ago, Tapnell was home to the Island's largest herd of dairy cows. These hard-working heifers produced 24,000 litres of milk every day, 365 days a year.

In their place, we've welcomed a crowd of life-sized model cows painted in colourful, creative designs. Each represents a slice of Island life, sporting patterns and palettes that reflect local events, businesses and people.

You'll find them just outside The Cow restaurant. Why not take a stroll through the Herd and try to guess what each cow represents? It's a wonderful way to soak up the diversity and creativity that make the Isle of Wight so special.

  It was just that good

We ate at The Cow, and I honestly can’t exaggerate enough how good the food was. Steak on the first night, Caesar salad for lunch the next day – both absolutely delicious, perfectly priced, and easily on par with the best restaurants and pubs back home. We ended up eating there twice because it was just that good.
